KHAIRUL IZWAN FINALLY WINS a PanGlobal Alex Yoong F1 Driver Search round
Khairul Izwan Razali, 30, from Taman Sri Gombak, Selangor must be the unluckiest racer in Malaysia, until last sunday, when he finally won round 6 of the PanGlobal Alex Yoong F1 Driver Search held last Sunday at Penang's Batu Kawan Stadium kart circuit.
Khairul had been consistently one of the quickest driver this year but he had always found himself in some form of kart problems or encountered spins in all the five previous attempts he had to qualify for the grand finals to be held in December this year. He had participated from round 1 to 3 held in Selangor and then travelled to K. Terengganu for round 4 as well as last month's round 5 held in KartQuest circuit at the Sunway Lagoon Extreme Park - but all to no avail.
An estactic Khairul Izwan said after the event, "This is my 5th attempt this year and I would have been very disappointed if I failed again but now I am so so happy. I now look forward to the grand finals in December and I know that the other finalists for the are very experienced, I'm expecting some very challenging competition to win the grand prize of the Formula BMW test drive."
Mohd Ramdhan Pahrulrazi, a 24 year-old mechanic travelled from Ipoh to Penang for the event and he was not disappointed to finish just behind Khairul in 2nd. A first timer in the PanGlobal series, he was not flustered and he cooly described his second as, "I never expected to be on the podium as I just came to the event to do my best. I am very glad that I had a smooth race from the start till the end. Now I'm looking forward to the December Grand Finals."
Another non-Penangite, Iylia Rashidi from Tronoh, Perak finished third. The 21 year old is a mechanic by profession and he felt he was abit unlucky to not have beaten Khairul, After trailing Khairul for several laps I managed to overtake him and led him for 3 laps. Unfortunately I made a mistake and spun on the very last lap. Anyway, its good to have qualified and I'm on the top 3 steps of the podium."
The other two qualifiers to join the top 3 of round 6 to the grand finals are Salim Abd Ranee and Ng Chian Lin who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The next event, round 7 will be held at the KartQuest circuit at the Sunway Lagoon Extreme Park on the Sunday of 18th September 2005.
The PanGlobal Alex Yoong F1 Driver Search is sponsored and promoted by PanGlobal Insurance Bhd., co-sponsored by Proton and supported Alex Yoong and the KartQuest Circuit Sunway Lagoon.
